What is a religion?
Belief in supernatural beings (gods). Ritual acts focused on sacred objects. A moral code Prayer and other forms of communication with gods. A more or less total organisation of one’s life based on the world view it holds. A social group bound together by the above. But then some religions don't have all of these aspects and many cults do! |
What is a Cult?
It uses psychological coercion to recruit, indoctrinate and retain its members It forms an elitist group. Its founder leader is self-appointed, dogmatic, messianic, not accountable and has charisma. It believes 'the end justifies the means' in order to solicit funds recruit people. Its wealth does not benefit its members or society. But then some cults don't have all of these aspects and many religions do! |
